Maja | This is Childhood Cancer

This is Childhood Cancer

I met Maja back in the fall of 2019. Long story short, I met her through a very good mutual friend of ours. When Maja was just 4 months old, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  I didn’t meet Maja until after all of this. But, this sweet, beautiful girl has been through it all in just a few years of her life.  After being diagnosed again with Leukemia, I decided it was time to celebrate Maja. Literally pulling this all together in just a few days and some great friends over at Thomas & Thomas Photography, we decided to give Maja a princess session she deserves. Maja’s mom, Jaime and her sister Ella decided to shave their heads in light of Maja. Because Maja does not fight alone and neither does any of the cancer kids. I commend Jaime and Ella for being there for Maja and letting Maja shave their heads.

We had so much fun dancing and listening to one of Maja’s favorite artists, Post Malone. Dressing up, putting on a crown and a big speaker in the corner playing some fab tunes, we danced the day away.

Then after dancing, jumping on the couch and running up and down the gorgeous stairs we decided it was time to so the unthinkable…

Maja was so excited to cut her mom and sister’s hair off. At this point, Maja had the scissors and was ready to go. Maja and Ella were so excited… they really went into this together and had so much fun. The giggles and the excitement, I wish you could hear it all.  After what seemed like a bunch of fun, I think it finally hit Maja and you could see in her eyes she wasn’t sure about it all. The unselfish thing that her mom and sister were doing was to show Maja she was not alone in all of this.

After Jaime and Ella shaved their heads, Maja was finally on board to do hers next. When we first started, she wasn’t sure that she was ready to shave her head. So we let her have fun doing everyone else’s. But it was hard for Maja to realize that she was going to go through this fight again. But not alone. To be honest, this was hard for me at this point to keep going. No one tells you how emotionally hard this is on these kids. This is why I wanted to do this for Maja. While it may seem a bit too much, it’s not!! This girl is in the hospital now, literally fighting every single day. She doesn’t get to go home after her treatments. I know soon, and I talk to her mom a lot, she will get to come home in just about a week. While this is brutal to see, this is really what happens to these kids who fight with all of their hearts.
